According to the UN projections, 70% of the world's population will live in cities by 2050, and 60% in intertropical zones. Focusing our efforts on cities from today is not only necessary, it's essential.
The socio-economic and urban context in the Overseas Territories means that consideration must be given to a more sustainable approach to city management and construction. These territories are particularly vulnerable due to their geography and specific characteristics, which result in challenges in terms of development, facilities, housing and access to basic services. This handbook will apply the AEU2 methodology to the issues and problems of the Overseas Territories from an operational point of view. It is for overseas project owners in all disciplines and regions, including those outside the OverseasTerritories. It highlights the diversity of potential approaches and best sustainable development practice suited to tropical environments.
