The EU Ecolabel and result of the HETEL call for project from ADEME

The EU Ecolabel is a reliable and official label, created in 1992 by the European Commission, which helps companies to develop and enhance the value of goods and services (including tourist accommodations) that are more environmentally friendly and safer for human health. The EU Ecolabel give competitive advantages to tourist accommodation by reducing their consumption on all fronts (water, energy, waste…). Thought these actions, EU Ecolabel certified tourist accommodations have contributed to reducing local pollution and their carbon footprint.

In 2017, taking the opportunity of the 25th anniversary of this label, ADEME launched a call for projects (HETEL) to help tourist accommodations pass their EU Ecolabel certification. During one year, ADEME has monitored the environmental impact of 20 touristic accommodations focused on their water and energy consumption, their waste management and their choice for environmentally friendly product (such as detergent).

The selected accommodation in the HETEL call for project

20 touristic accommodations have been selected in five different French regions.
Among those 20 selected candidates in the HETEL they all have different approach to implement an environmentally friendly strategy.
  • The Terre de Jor seminar center choose to install a solar energy system combined with pel-let boiler for air and water heating to replace the oil-fired boiler.
  • The mountain holiday village Cévéo in Valminier opted for energy saving lighting installation.
  • The Auberge Kallisté in Corsica, decided to move towards a zero-waste breakfast.
  • The Campsite Domaine de la forge reduced tap flow and stored rainwater.
Those actions are the most significant actions led and they are part of a more global strategy covering all kind of consumption.
