In Europe, ADEME contributes to EU policies and programmes.
Within the European Union, ADEME provides support to the development and implementation of EU policies. Under the authority of its parent ministries, the agency is involved in the process of consultation and assessment prior to the establishment of European regulations and programmes. In this preparatory phase, French concerns, such as the environmental labelling of consumer products and energy-saving certificates, can be promoted.
As part of its participation in the Renewable Energy Club, the European network of national energy efficiency and renewable energy agencies, ADEME supports the sharing of best practices and provides its expertise to assist in the implementation of directives and the assessment of European energy management policies.
Furthermore, ADEME acts as a National Contact Point for the energy and environment sections of the European framework programme, Horizon 2020. In this context, the agency is responsible for involving the research and innovation community in European programmes and providing support to French project owners (information, awareness raising, etc.). ADEME takes part in the European networks of National Contact Points for energy (C-ENERGY2020) and environment (NCPs-CaRE).
Finally, the agency participates in some of the European Commission's working groups.
The ADEME office in Brussels performs a political and legislative watch and directs operators to respective Commission's departments and internal representatives, in order to develop partnerships. The agency also maintains close contact with the regional offices, professional groups and some non-governmental organisations.
